Antonio Cairoli, the nine-times motocross world champion, has won the Rallylegend Classic at the wheel of the 1995 Subaru Impreza 555.
Tony, together with the navigator Eleonora Mori, showed extreme skill in driving the prestigious Subaru, which was raced in the past by the champion Colin McRae, beating the talented Argentinian Marcos Ligato by 12”.
This was an extraordinary performance on one of the most iconic rally cars in the world, flying the famous blue livery that perfectly matched the Magneti Marelli Checkstar colours.
This is the second success for Tony Cairoli in the San Marino event, which he previously won in 2015 in the Myth category with a Lancia Delta Integrale, once again demonstrating his exceptional star talent, even on four wheels. The Sicilian champion, who wore and flew the Magneti Marelli Checkstar colours during Rallylegend, thanked the company for its support during this prestigious event that has been taking place on the roads of San Marino for twenty-one editions.
This year, Rallylegend once again saw a huge turnout of spectators along the route, who were able to see the most beautiful rally cars of all time in action, and cheer on stars such as René Arnoux, Marco Melandri, Jari-Matti Latvala, Stig Blomqvist, Tony Fassina, Dani Sordo and Cairoli himself.
Tony Cairoli, a life dedicated to motoring
Antonio Cairoli is one of the most successful motocross riders of all time, thanks to wins in 94 Gran Prix competitions and his nine championship titles, six of which he won in a row between 2009 and 2014. He withdrew from competing in 2021, to then become team manager for the KTM Factory Racing team.
Magneti Marelli Checkstar has always been at Cairoli’s side, celebrating countless Motocross world championships and many victories on four wheels - such as the unforgettable win in 2018 against Valentino Rossi in the Master Show at the Monza Rally -; the company congratulates Tony for this latest milestone in his career, and is looking forward to the next adventure together!
